flag-raising goes from towns to village level.
The practice of flying the National Flag
during the celebration marking with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di
Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 62nd birthday celebration, has been the
tradition in the country for so many years and this has not only taken
place in the main town but was also in mukims, kampungs and even at
remote settlement in the interior part of the country. In this
connection, a ceremony to raise the national flag was held by at Kampung
Manggis Satu which represent residents in Mukim Berakas "B" for the
Brunei Muara District, this year. Present to witness the ceremony was
the Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri
Kerna Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abu Bakar. The flag was raised by the
Sea Scout team from the Berakas Secondary School,to the accompaniment of
the national anthem sung by a choir group from the Paduka Seri Begawan
Sultan Science Collage and pupils of the Fairview Montessori
International School. The ceremony also included the handing over of
the national flag from the contributors to the Acting Ketua of Kampong
Manggis, Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maun. The flags will be
distributed among the residents of Kampung Manggis. Meanwhile, a
similar function was held at the compound of the residence of the
Penghulu of Mukim Peramu. Present at the the function was the Brunei
Muara District Officer,Dato Paduka Haji Mohamad Yussop bin Bakar, who
also handed over the national flags to the Royal Brunei Police Force.
50 pupils from the Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School, Kampung
Peramu sang the national anthem.
