Healthy
civil servant is most desired by a government and nation
Civil servants form the government machinery
that brings about further improvement, reforms and progress to Brunei
Darussalam's civil services. A healthy civil service staff is the kind
most desired by a government and nation and very much so by the
government of Brunei Darussalam. This was stated by the Permanent
Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office during the Launch of the 2005
Tobacco Order, particularly for the Brunei Darussalam Civil Service.
Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirrat went on to say that civil
servants who are healthy would come up with various innovative ideas and
could produce a maximum work quality with a huge impact on their
performance and the public. The permenant secretary called on his
counterparts at other ministries and their deputies as well as heads of
department to support the Ministry of Health's good intention to curb
the smoking habit among civil servants in Brunei Darussalam. This
includes tightening the prohibition against smoking at government
premises and buildings including sports venues, canteens etcetera, under
the administration of their respective ministries and departments.
Today's Launch of the 2005 Tobacco Order was specifically for the civil
service staffs from various government ministries and departments.
There are 40 thousand smokers in the country, and that 17.5 percent of
them are 15 years old and above. The function also heard a briefing on
the 2005 Tobacco Order.
